In initial use, a CCN scenario can be used in a step-wise fashion to teach students with a moderated "walk-through" of the various steps, decisions, team-member roles, equipment, patient indications and responder actions, with accompanying narration by the instructor. The instructor can perform a demonstration run-through in real-time, demonstrating the actual nature of the scenario as it would unfold in real-life.
CCN students can then use the same scenario configuration to train with by repeatedly running through the scenario until they achieved satisfactory scores in timing, sequencing, and reactive decisions. Scenarios can be constructed by instructors in such a fashion that the drills become increasingly more difficult, by adding more stimuli, conflicting choices, distractions, and mis-direction. Students can choose specific areas of the simulation to drill with in order to improve their scores.
Finally, instructors can test students using the same scenarios with fixed scoring criteria, and use it to generate a grade.
